On May 28th 2016 I was invited to speak on some elements of the progressive Tagore cuisine by the Tagore Society of Singapore. It was an evening called ‘Thakur bari-r andormohol’. The day to day life of the famous Tagore household in Jorashako in North Kolkata was depicted in a fashion show and dance drama format. I addressed a room of eighty odd guests and spoke about the eclectic nuances of food in the Tagore household. Referencing the bard’s first poem on food I discussed how he used to collect menu cards from his travels and inculcated the listed items in the family menu and how he incorporated history into flavours and invented heritage dishes. I also put up a unique dish for the evening at the restaurant Myra’s kitchen, keema-r doi bora which was extremely relished. The evening was graced by the Bangladeshi high commissioner and his spouse and the deputy Indian high commissioner who recited along with me making the evening a memorable one for Singapore foodies
